About
I am a 30 something working mother for two young school going children. I work for the one business in South African that everyone hates…. SARS (google if you need to!) I also do one of the jobs that everyone hates. I have a wonderful husband that has been promoted to Manager effective 1 January 2010. I am a daughter to the most difficult person in the world, which I unfortunately have to call mother, but I still love her to bits, and would go to the end of the earth for her. I have the most amazing dad, but he drives me batty most of the times.
I have two brothers, who also have a LOT of issues, just like me.
We never had it easy growing up, with my bio dad committing suicide when I was four years old. My mom was left with three children under the age 10, totally alone, with even her mother turning her back on her. Yet, that was the best thing that could have happened to her and to us. We survived, she remarried, and we ended up with a wonderful dad.
We all ‘made’ it in the world. My eldest brother did his doctorate at the age of 30. My youngest brother (middle child with typical middle child syndrome) became an engineer, and is currently one the big boys in one of our biggest household names. Me? Well I am considered one of the top ten in my field, and even though I do work for a government institution and I do very mundane work, I pride myself in that I am ranked one of the ‘best’.
My family consists of me, my DH and my two children. We have a yard full of pets, but I am really not going to go into that at the moment.
My DH comes from a very strange family. He is he youngest of two, and even though they stay about 20 minutes away from each other, they see each other maybe once every five years. My FIL (MIL passed away) stays about 5 minutes away from us, but he has chosen a new life for himself. It saddens me to see DH talk about his dad, and the fact that he has chosen a new family with his new wife, and has decided to cut off(not financially) his children and grand children. It makes me angry, as I have to try to explain to the children why he does not want to be part of their birthday’s, Christmases etc. Well, I took the easy route. I told them they moved very far away. How do you explain to a 5 and 6 year old, that your own flesh and blood Grand dad does not want or love you anymore, because he got married and inherited a grandson?
2010 is going to be a tough but wonderful journey for my family. I received word this week past that I got a HUGE promotion!!!!!! My DH received news that he has been made Manager of the one department. He will be responsible for managing 130 people. That is big. For him that is big. He never had the opportunity to study further, as his parents believed that you need to work and fend for yourself. So he worked, studied, worked, studied… You get the picture. He is only 33 and he was made Manager. And this is an international firm that he is working for, and he has a trade behind him. So for us this is BIG!!!!!!!
My daughter is going to Grade 1 and my son to Grade R. So it is work, school, house, my business, work, school, house, my business…. 2010 is going to BUSY!!!!
